Shengshan Island of the Shengsi Islands is one of over 400 islands that are settled at the mouth of the Yangtze River off the East coast of China. It was once lived on by fisherman and their families, and was long abandoned as it was more economical to work from the mainland. What remains is an island frozen in time, literally being consumed by nature. Shanghai based photographer Qing Jian made a recent trip to the island where she captured these eerie and beautiful images of moss and ivy covering what was once a thriving village. If you are looking for a place to experience the power of mother nature, add Shengshan Island to your travel plans.
