Exquisite bouquets meet exceptional precision in the latest gallery from Japanese artist Azuma Makoto. The collection features floral arrangements trapped in ice, creating a unique experience for the visual collectable. Makoto entraps flowers in their most natural state, while freezing in such a way as to intensify the colors while the inorganic environment prevents warp and decay. When left to thaw, the flower bouquets will wilt so that the viewer may observe the fascinating change of plant life. One might only argue that the beauty and decay of Iced Flowers mimics that of human life experience.
Taking floral arrangements to the extreme, the artist is known for creating unusual pieces that stray from botanic norms. Last July, Makoto launched his exhibition of EXOBIOTANICA where his creations were launched into outer space. The project captured a stunning array of the Bonzai Tree with planet earth pictured in the distant background.
The futuristic and earthy organic perspective of Makoto shines far above reason and creates a unique experience for both creator and viewer.
