Maison&Objet

Maison&Objet lands in Miami on May 10th for the second year in a row, bringing the best the Americas has to offer. Double the size from last year, the city is getting ready to welcome designers from all over the world for a week of events, networking and most importantly great design.

Ligne Magazine had the chance to chat with Gaston Isoldi, Maison&Objet’s Regional Director, about the upcoming show.

Tell us about the DNA of M&O Americas, and why Miami?
M&O Americas’ DNA is to bring the interior design community of the Americas together. We constantly discover and promote new talents, new products, from new destinations. Miami is the heart (more than the center) of the continent… and it beats at a fast pace, mixing cultures from Latin America, US and Europe.
What are you most excited about for Maison&Objet Americas 2016?
The most exciting part is the new blood.  This year we are presenting 185 new brands that didn’t exhibit last year.  Brands from Europe, North and South America. The the Miami Experience program is full of activities across the city the entire week, from the Award Ceremony of the Designer of the Year and Rising Talents, the Young Designers Exhibition, the access to 8 museums, the installations, lectures and presentations in the showrooms in the Design District, Wynwood, Ironside and DCOTA. Lastly but not least the Summit, a 4 full day world-class conference program with leaders of the interior design from across the globe sharing their knowledge and interacting with the audience.

Besides the city, what makes this Maison&Objet show different from the ones in Paris and Singapore?
Because of its size, its more intimate, there is more time to productive conversations, to get information about each product, to develop new relationships.  The mix of cultures and the vibe of the city makes it very special.
How important is it for M&O Americas to recognize Rising  American talents?
It is part of the M&O’s DNA.  We are the main source of inspiration from many designers.  Some of the current famous designers starting with us as a Rising Talent.  We give them the chance to get exposure to the international media to international buyers.  We are compromised with the product and interior design community to develop more talents.

For those visiting Miami for the first time, where is your favorite place to eat and to shop?
If you love fish, Milo’s restaurant.  Others Juvia, Michy’s… To shop there are many places from concept stores in Wynwood to retail stores in Bal Harbour.
How important is the Design District and Wynwood to M&O Americas?
For its content and location, are the natural partners for M&O Americas.  The Design District is very consolidated already and Wynwood is still in developing mode, surprising me every week with new galleries, showrooms and shops.
What’s M&O Americas‘ ultimate goal?
To gather all the interior design community together, sharing knowledge, setting trends, uniting the Americas and Europe as the first step.
