What do you bring when you travel?
My family, of course! Spending quality time with my three boys and husband is so important to me, and traveling together is by far my favorite way to go about that. Aside from those four wonderful men in my life, you’ll never catch me packing my bags without one of our Kendra Scott Train Cases. This carry-all bag is durable, versatile, not to mention beautiful to look at! I personally love the unique storage capabilities, like the elastic bands designed to keep small bottles in place, or a hidden snap meant to hold delicate necklaces on the side. With my Train Case, a chic pair of sunglasses and a good book, I have all I need for my next adventure!
My greatest travel tip is to always be open to inspiration, wherever you go. Let yourself be inspired by the people and culture around you. I find that I am constantly pulling inspiration for new jewelry designs from my recent travels. Our upcoming Summer 2015 collection is inspired by my trip to Tulum, a magical destination on the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I traveled there with my family and was completely taken in by the vibrance and opulence of the Mayan culture and the breathtaking backdrop that nature provided. I brought back inspiration of my travels to my design team, and together we created a collection based on that experience. I pulled inspiration from every aspect of my trip there, from the shape of the jungle’s split leaf palm to the triangular shapes of the Mayan ruins and even the traditional Mayan jaguar masks.
Traveling is one of my passions in life. Whether it’s a flight across the globe or a road trip to a small town rich in history and community, I love exploring places I’ve never been. I have had the pleasure of traveling to several places around the world, a few of my favorites being exotic Dubai and Bali, and I have taken away unique and captivating inspirations from each experience. I don’t often frequent the same place—I’d much prefer to seek out new destinations to adventure each time. But I have to say, Italy is my absolute favorite place in the world. From the food and wine to the people and atmosphere, Italy is one place I could visit a hundred times and never get enough. I took my family there a few years ago, and I will never forget that incredible experience.

What do you bring with you when you travel?
Given the nature of my job as a travel blogger, I can never leave on a trip without all my technology in tow! I will always travel with my Macbook Air (great size/weight for travel), iPhone(s), Frends headphones, Olympus digital camera, and lots of spare memory cards, batteries and chargers etc. Of course I wouldn’t go far without my passport either!
I’m a firm believer in ‘what you put in is what you get out’—especially when it comes to nourishing your body! To combat jet-lag I will always have a big healthy meal before boarding a flight, drink lots of water on board, and wait to eat after the flight if the meal options aren’t healthy. Nowadays airline food is improving but I still try to avoid it where possible and just drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
on the journey.
I love anything out of the ordinary and love to seek out cultures uniquely different to my own and the Western world. Therefore I absolutely loved experiencing my first Safari in the Kruger National Park last year, I also love Eastern Europe (favorites include St. Petersburg in Russia, Mostar in Bosnia, and Herzegovina and Transylvania in Romania), and absolutely loved Marrakech, Morocco.

What do you bring when you travel?
After years of constant traveling, I usually try to limit what I bring with me to the essentials—laptop, passport, Visa card and a few items of clothing. Although, this is not always the case. For the last 16 months, I have actually dragged along my cat on a great Pan-American road trip. Traveling with a pet is a new adventure for me, but honestly, I wouldn’t exchange her company for an extra suitcase.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t see all the must-see sights; traveling is about getting to know local culture and embracing new surroundings. Leave that tourist map behind, get lost somewhere random, and only then will you truly become a real traveler. Remember, the best traveling stories always come from an unexpected turn of events.
Everywhere! I find that every destination has its own unique charm and beauty. I obviously love the beaches of the Bahamas and Turkey, the seaside villages of Croatia and Panama, the food of Thailand and Mexico, the culture of Guatemala and Vietnam, the history of Cambodia and Taiwan, and the natural beauty of Scotland, Switzerland and Belize. I also love my home country, Canada, as it is truly dozens of countries merged into a spectacular one. Truth be told, I am one of those restless nomads constantly on the move searching for that place to call home.
