Simply labeled “The River Oaks High Rise,” the high end luxury condominium is located, at 3433 Westheimer, in one of Houston’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Through his New York-based development company, Arel Capital, Richard Leibovitch hopes to update the structure with 21st Century luxuries and amenities.
Built in 1967, the high rise was highly regarded for its design and exclusive location. The 17-floor condominium featured Miesian-style architecture, steel frames, curtain walls, expansive windows and an open layout.
However, in recent years, the building had started to deteriorate due to changes in management and neglect. Local developers had advised demolition of the old structure, but Leibovitch still saw potential. Hoping to attract empty nesters and wealthy business people, Leibovitch plans to offer more contemporary styling while maintaining the original structure’s frames and imprints.
Minutes away from the Galleria and Downtown Houston, the 84-unit luxury high rise is expected to feature floor to ceiling windows, terraced gardens, corner balconies and large terraces. Floor plans will range from 1,500 to 9,000 square feet, with units starting at $875,000. Renovation is expected to be completed in fall 2016.
