Kendra Scott, the powerhouse woman behind the global multi-million dollar brand Kendra Scott Jewelry, just recently launched her latest collection, Via Maya, pulling vibrant colors and shapes from her travels to Mexico. With Spring coming to an end and Summer just around the corner, these accessories are the perfect go to for dressing up any outfit! We asked kendra to tell us more about the Via Maya collection:
How did you start Kendra Scott Jewelry?
I launched my first jewelry collection in 2002 as a new mom, and with just $500. I saw a white space in the jewelry industry for beautiful, handcrafted jewelry at an attainable price point, something I myself had been looking for. And that’s when the idea of Kendra Scott Design was born!
Tell me about the Via Maya collection.
Our Summer Via Maya collection was inspired by my travels to Tulum, Mexico, a city that I have loved for years. I set out to showcase pieces fit for a wild paradise, but rich with artisanal character. You will find this collection is a beautiful pairing of rich, colorful materials and natural ocean-inspired elements.
Where/what did you grab inspiration from for Via Maya?
I pulled inspiration from every aspect of my trip to Tulum, a place where ancient Mayan ruins rest next to a winding coastline and colorful marketplaces sit beside a beautiful, untamed jungle. From the shape of the split leaf palm to the triangular formations of Mayan architecture, this collection is an expression of all the elements that made me fall in love with Tulum.
What is the design process behind creating a new line?
Each of our seasonal collections draws from a particular inspiration of mine. Through vision boards, material sourcing and treatment exploration, I collaborate with my fantastic design team to create four new lines each year that translate that inspiration into gorgeous pieces of Kendra Scott jewelry.
What can we expect from your new collection coming out this Fall?
Our Fall 2015 Mystic Bazaar collection was inspired by the ornate city of Dubai. I wanted to incorporate an of-the-moment modernism with a little worldly charm. The result is a stunning contrast of eclectic style and classic refinement. I have to say, it is one of my favorite collections to date!
