Preciously Paris is a contemporary handbag line that expresses artistic culture with a dose of femininity. Preciously Paris uses contemporary art, fashion and character to not only make a statement about an outfit, but to also make a statement about today’s style. From sketches to screen printing to embroidery, the inventive hands of Preciously Paris develop the one-of-a-kind handbags to display modern art and culture through fashion. The creator behind the glamorous designs, Carole Tessier, shares details about her label and her latest collection, Vintage Currency.
What influenced you to create such elaborate, feminine handbags?
I have always been passionate about embroidery and arts and crafts.
And so, my purpose, as a fashion designer, was to recreate this very sophisticated technique through Haute-Couture clutches, associated with unexpected materials, giving them a touch of chic, rock and, as well, an artistic vision as Contemporary Art is a true part of me.
All of your pieces are very ornate and detailed; is there a specific technique you go through when designing and making the bags?
Aboslutely, I actually use crochet, mechanical and manual embroideries as well as serigraph, the “Lunéville” technique too. Obviously it all begins with sketches and a projection of all the different steps we will have to go towards to get to the final result.
All of your collections seem to embody modern art; what inspires your designs?
Yes! As I said before, Contemporary Art is one of my passions too and including it in my designs was so logical. I particularly enjoy Pop Art artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol…as well as their successors like Basquiat or Damien Hirst.
This is how “Bang Bang” shew up! With that very specific dynamism, energy, you can find in that artistic era…
Your Vintage Currency Collection is breathtaking! How did this collection come about? Does it portray anything in particular?
I have always thought that the true work on bills printing was stupendous, was a real art. And I was willing to design and reproduce all those beautiful pieces of art in order to recreate the atmosphere and the culture of the countries they were referring to!
What do you have planned for Preciously Paris in the future?
I would really enjoy seeing Preciously being distributed in the 60 more famous concept stores around the world!! And, that every modern and free woman carry a Preciously bag as a real part of themselves.
We are now working on a second collaboration with Moda Operandi and I do hope this is the beginning of a long partnership in the very special values of the brand with Contemporary Art as the main topic.
