Real life imagery meets fairytale fantasy in these elegant images taken by photographer Daniela Majic. The newest collection titled “Secret Garden” tells the story of several mystical fairytale garden queens. We sat down with Daniela in an exclusive interview to learn more about this incredibly intriguing collection and the inspiration behind her work.
“I’ve been taking pictures my whole life, but it wasn’t until I was nineteen that I really started to take pictures of everything and anything.” Majic recalls running around the house when she was young, taking photographs of her sisters and their Barbie Dolls. “Finally I realized that all I wanted to do was photograph pictures of people.” Photographing the beauty of people seems to be the motivation for Daniela and her eccentric photographic artwork. “I was inspired to create Secret Garden after taking some time off from my creative work.” With new-found inspiration, Daniela created the full sets of her Secret Garden collection.
The displays were organically created by the photographer herself, in the small attic space above her house. Using elements of paints and artificial glass, the artist decorates her set using hundreds of silk flowers. It is here, that Majic can be found creating back-drops and hand-painting earth matter. Majic shows that she is indeed not just the photographer, but the wholesome artist, as she is known for also designing, sewing, and creating her own wardrobe for her editorial shoots. Her work is so well done, that the flowers and plant matter themselves appear to be authentic and flourishing.
Since all of her work is done in the square of an upstairs attic, Majic has certainly learned to grasp every ornate detail. “The entire series really stems from child-like imagination and fantasy worlds, and I wanted to show that anyone can create big things in small spaces.” The magic of these pieces is that they create an illusion of vast space, yet where they were taken has so little. The goal is to take the viewer into another world, one that is glowing with surreal extraordinary lust and imagination.
Her personal style can also be accounted for in her work, as Majic says she is currently inspired by the likes of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton and Eugenio Recuenco.
Majic not only creates visually appealing pieces of art, but says she wants to use her style to help influence the lives of others as well. Stemming from the desire to help underprivileged children, Majic has been using her pieces to collect donations for various children’s charities. “I want to help kids who may not have the same opportunities as I had growing up,”
Intrigued by luscious forests and the beauty of fantasy, Majic creates an array of original images portraying the enchantress and the thrill of wonder.
