Tkees personifies a sandal brand that starts from the simplicity of the design and lasts through the quality of craftsmanship. Some of the many sandals that are coming soon are “The Chelsea,” “Shimmer Foundations,” and “Splatter.” Each sandal carries its own presence as “The Chelsea” is designed by a SickKids patient waiting for a cure for her pain, “Shimmer” adds sparkle to simplicity and “Splatter” represents youth and art. Carly Burnett, the Creative Director of Tkees, answers a few questions about the sandals to further understand a simple sandal that is essential for your wardrobe.
Is this the first time Tkees has done a project like “The Chelsea”? If so, what inspired them to do it? If not, what other projects have been done?
This is the first time that TKEES has done a project like this and we are really excited about it. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful girl, named Chelsea, that is in and out patient at SickKids collaborate with us on this project. We asked her draw things that make her happy, and where she saw her special place. This project has been incredibly rewarding and we plan on carrying it forward with other patients in the future, in hopes of bringing more awareness to the incredible work done at SickKids.
Is there a particular look that “Shimmer Foundations” is going for?
Shimmer Foundations is a take on our most popular group. The colors of our Foundations collection are carried throughout our line, and it’s always fun to take something so simple and create something unique with it. This is what our Shimmer Foundations are – adding a little sparkle to a beloved classic.
What occasion do you picture the shimmer sandals fitting for?
Although Foundations are suitable for any occasion, the Shimmer Foundations are the perfect option for a dressier destination.
What inspired the splatter sandals? What occasion do you see the splatter sandals fitting for?
When I was younger and attending art school, I always loved creating pieces by taking cans of paints and pouring them down a canvas. I love how every painting came out differently, and even when I used the same colors, the outcome would always be unlike any other. It fascinated me the way some colors blended while others remained untouched. I love playing with color, but my personal style has always revolved around wearing neutral classics and nude shades. So, for me, combining the two was just a natural jump, and the outcome was a collection of art.
